CALABASAS, Calif., – November 8, 2004 – Strix Systems, a leading provider of intelligent wireless mesh networking systems, today announced significant advancement in the capabilities of wireless networking with the general availability of the Access/One Network version 2.0. This version raises the industry’s mesh networking bar in the areas of Quality of Service (QoS) via the new Priority/One feature; virtual multi-use networks via VirtualStrix; and carrier class enhancements for security and management.
Priority/One provides user defined class of service filters to enforce end-to-end QoS characteristics. Regardless of client device or traffic type, the Access/One Network 2.0 allows users to implement full QoS, making the network even more suitable for voice, video, and data applications within multi-use or multi-service networks. Coupled with existing roaming functionality, Access/One Network is uniquely suited for supporting voice over wireless LAN using any vendor’s wireless handsets in both enterprise and carrier operated networks.
The addition of VirtualStrix allows users of the Access/One Network to easily deploy multi-use virtual wireless networks. VirtualStrix supports the broadcasting of multiple Basic Service Set Identifiers (BSSID), each with individual Media Access Control (MAC) addresses, allowing users to create up to 16 virtual wireless networks within a single Strix Access/One Network. Service providers, airports, hotels, convention centers, and other individuals who are deploying multi-use networks require secure segmented access for various user groups and traffic types. With VirtualStrix these multi-purpose networks can be deployed using differing authentication and encryption schemes per BSSID, providing the desired levels of security per virtual network.
“We recently completed a one hundred node Access/One Network deployment at a flagship hotel property in Atlanta,” said John Glazik, president and CEO of Superclick, a leading provider of Internet access management solutions to the hospitality markets. “Access/One Network version 2.0 will allow premiere hotel properties to create multi-purpose networks that deliver varying types of traffic which require different QoS priorities and use different security schemes. Priority/One and VirtualStrix will allow them to do this more effectively than any other wireless networking solution on the market today.”
“Our VirtualStrix and PriorityOne implementations were done with input from service providers and other Strix partners who deploy converged data, voice and video networks today,” said Audian Paxson, director of product management and product marketing for Strix. “Access/One Network 2.0 meets and exceeds their specific QoS and virtual network requirements. We recently deployed 2.0 Access/One Network at the VON conference in Boston, where hundreds of concurrent voice and data users really stressed the network, and the Access/One Network performed flawlessly.”
Additional features that are part of Access/One Network 2.0 include Client Connect Privacy, which disallows associated clients on an Access/One Network to view other associated clients, and Rogue/One, a further enhancement to the Access/One Network’s ability to discover, locate, and report the presence of unknown access points in any RF spectrum. Configuring and managing all new features can be accomplished using Manager/One, the Web-based management tool provided as part of the Access/One Network, through command line interface (CLI), or through SNMP based management utilities.
AvailabilityAccess/One Network 2.0 firmware is available at no charge to existing Strix Systems customers who have deployed previous versions of the Access/One Network. Large numbers of Access/One Nodes can be upgraded with a single click using the Manager/One network management interface.
Strix Systems ProductsThe Strix Systems Access/One Network represents the next generation of wireless LAN products, leaping past the traditional access point and emerging switch architecture to Mesh; a self-discovering, self-configuring, self-tuning, and self-healing wireless network incorporating robust security and comprehensive management within a single wireless network. The Access/One Network consists of various modules, designed to stack on top of one another to form a network node. Multiple network nodes discover and connect to each other through a mesh topology to form a unique wireless system for each organization. The Access/One Network can be configured and managed via Manager/One, a comprehensive management platform that allows IT administrators to control all key elements of their wireless network. Access/One Networks have been deployed numerous environments throughout the world including; enterprise, hospitality, education, public safety, and metropolitan area networks.
